Polish Americans Call on Obama to Support Macedonia’s Full NATO Accession

The United Macedonian Diaspora (UMD) is pleased to inform you that our friends, the Polish American Congress (PAC), the voice of over 12 million Americans of Polish heritage, sent a letter to President Obama calling for his “unqualified support for Macedonia’s full membership within NATO at the upcoming U.K. Summit.”

In the letter to President Obama, PAC clearly expressed their concern that enlargement must become a priority at this year’s upcoming summit. “The PAC strongly believes that NATO enlargement in Central and Eastern Europe would further strengthen security in the region, and in light of the current crisis in Ukraine and Crimea, and especially the Russian encroachment into the region, we feel that it is important for NATO to open its doors this year to our allies such as Macedonia,” stated PAC President Frank J. Spula.

UMD expresses its sincere appreciation to the Polish American Congress and the entire Polish-American community. Through PAC and UMD, the Macedonian-American and Polish-American communities have worked diligently to strengthen U.S. policy on Central, Southeastern, and Eastern Europe in order to protect the security and peace of the region as a whole. PAC and UMD also collaborate on U.S. domestic issues such as comprehensive immigration reform, which includes Poland being added to the U.S. Visa Waiver Program. UMD, a vocal proponent of such inclusion, believes Poland’s addition to the U.S. Visa Waiver Program would pave the way for other countries, like Macedonia, to eventually be included.
