The United Macedonian Diaspora (UMD), the global Macedonian advocacy organization based in Washington, D.C., wholeheartedly congratulates Vasil Sterjovski, the first-ever Macedonian to become a member of the Albanian Parliament, representing the Macedonian minority community in Albania belonging to the party Macedonian Alliance for European Integration (MAEI).
Upon taking the oath of office, Sterjovski stated “I have an historic responsibility to convey to you greetings from the Macedonians, who are loyal citizens of the Republic of Albania, because it is their home country…Macedonians in Albania helped liberate Albania from fascism (during WWII) and became an important part of this country.”
“Today is an historic day for Albania, Macedonia, for the Macedonian minority in Albania, who have fought long and hard to achieve this result, as well as for human rights period,” stated UMD President Metodija A. Koloski, who has roots from Korca, Albania on his father’s side. “Vasil is an exemplary young leader in Albania with real vision for the needs of the Macedonian minority in that country who has worked diligently to build awareness, bridges, and dialogue; we are proud of his and our collective accomplishment as a Macedonian people.”
Sterjovski is one of only a handful of members of national parliaments in the world of Macedonian heritage. Albania joins France, Germany, and Romania who have members of Parliament with Macedonian heritage. “We are deeply committed to human rights of ethnic Macedonians, and look forward to working with Vasil to further democracy, civil rights, multicultural plurality, and religious freedom for all in Southeast Europe,” added Koloski.
UMD uses this opportunity to encourage the Albanian Parliament to translate their website into Macedonian, and other minority languages to give equal access to minorities in Albania to understand the workings of Parliament and the decisions they are taking for the entire Albanian citizenry.

Honorable Speaker of Parliament,
Honorable deputies,
I have a historic duty to convey greetings from the Macedonians who are loyal citizens of the Republic of Albania because it is our birthplace.
We are born in Albania, we live in Albania, we work in Albania as Albanian citizens and together we will care and protect the Republic of Albania as our homeland and we will work for its integration into the European Union, in the strategic partnership with the United States of America. We have a beautiful place to rejoice, God and nature have given us everything!
I am the Secretary General of the only Macedonian Party in Albania – the Macedonian Alliance for European Integration, which, like other political parties, cares, inter alia, to strengthen the status and rights of the Macedonian community in our multicultural, multilingual society and multi-confessional. Albanian Macedonians joined the Albanian partisans in World War II and helped liberate Albania from fascism and became an important part of this country. Therefore, the Macedonians, together with Albanians, Greeks, Vlachs, Roma, Egyptians, Serbs, Montenegrins, Bosniaks, feel equal to the equality before the Constitution and the laws.
So far, there have been many Macedonians in state institutions. I am proud, because I am the first MP of the Macedonian minority in the Assembly of the Republic of Albania in his history, coming from a Macedonian registered party. Based on the 2017 pre-election agreement between the two parties: the Macedonian Alliance for European Integration (AMIE) and the Socialist Movement for Integration (SMI), I was the fifth in the LSI list for the Korça Region.
I express my gratitude to the Assembly of the Republic of Albania, who in 2013 returned the Macedonian names in the Municipality of Pustec and its nine villages.
Pusteci is an interesting tourist destination that has been neglected in these 28 years, so the government has to invest in the development of tourism, road infrastructure, water supply and sewerage network, and should help cross-border cooperation for the development of the Prespa National Park “between Albania, Greece and Macedonia.
Of course, the Macedonian community in the Republic of Albania is not just the Macedonians in the Pustec Municipality and the Serbs in the Devoll Area. Macedonians in Albania live in about fifty villages along the Albanian-Macedonian border, in the Prespa areas in the Korça Region, Golloborda in the Dibra District, Gora in the Kukes Region, and in the cities of Tirana, Elbasan, Durrës, Korça, Bilisht, Pogradec , Kukes, etc.
Honorable deputies,
Macedonians in Albania and Albanians in Macedonia are the bridge of cooperation and brotherhood in Albanian-Macedonian relations on the fundamental principles of international law based on equal sovereignty.
I personally will give everything from myself, together with all of you, who by the end of the mandate will fulfill the obligations of the deputy of this Assembly and will take responsibility before the challenges that society, citizens and the state will face, all of us together!

Македонците од Албанија, им се придружија на албанските партизани во Втората светска војна и помогнаа во ослободувањето на Албанија од фашизмот и станаа важен дел од оваа земја. Затоа и ние Македонците, заедно со Албанците, Грците, Власите, Ромите, Еѓиптјаните, Србите, Црногорците, Бошњаците, се чуствуваме рамноправни со рамноправните пред Уставот и законите.
И досега многу Македонци ги имало и ги има во институциите на системот. Јас сум горд, затоа што сум пратеник во Собранието на Република Албанија, за првпат во нејзината историја, од регистрирана Македонска партија.
Според договорот за коалиција од 2017 година меѓу, Македонска алијанса за европска интеграција и Социјалистичкото движење за интеграција, бев петти на листата на Социјалистичкото движење за интеграција, во Округот Корча.
Изразувам благодарност до Собранието на Република Албанија кое во 2013 година ја вратија македонската топонимија на општина Пустец и нејзините девет села.
Општина Пустец е интересна туристичка дестинација, која е запоставена последните 28 години, и сметам дека Владата треба да вложи во развојот на туризмот, патната инфраструктура, водоводот и канализацијата, како и треба да помогне во меѓуграничната соработка и развојот на евро-регионот и национален парк “Преспа“ меѓу Албанија, Грција и Македонија.
Се разбира, Македонската заедница во Република Албанија не се само Македонците во општина Пустец и селото Врбник во областа на Девол. Македонците во Албанија живеат во педесетина села долж албанско-македонската граница, во областите Мала Преспа во Округот на Корча, Голо Брдо во Округот на Дебар и Гора во Округот на Кукс, како и во градовите Тирана, Елбасан, Драч, Корча, Билишта, Подградец, Кукс, и други места.

Македонците во Република Албанија и Албанците во Република Македонија се мостови на соработка и братство во македонско-албанските односи, врз основниот принцип на меѓународното право на еднаква сувереност.

Të nderuar deputetë,
Unë kam një detyrë historike për t’ju përcjellë përshëndetjet nga Maqedonasit të cilët janë qytetarë luajalë të Republikës së Shqipërisë, sepse ajo është edhe vendlindja jonë.
Në Shqipëri kemi lindur, në Shqipëri jetojmë, në Shqipëri punojmë, si qytetarë shqiptarë dhe së bashku do të kujdesemi dhe do ta mbrojmë Republikën e Shqipërisë, si Atdheun tonë të përbashkët dhe do të punojmë për integrimin e tij në Bashkimin Evropian, duke u mbështetur në partneritetin strategjik me Shtetet e Bashkuara të Amerikës. Ne kemi një vend të bukur të cilit duhet t’i gëzohemi, Zoti dhe natyra na kanë dhënë gjithçka!
Unë jam Sekretari i Përgjithshëm i të vetmes Parti maqedonase në Shqipëri – Aleanca e Maqedonasve për Integrim Europian, e cila ashtu si partitë e tjera politike, kujdeset mes të tjerash edhe për të përforcuar statusin dhe të drejtat e komunitetit maqedonas në shoqërinë tonë multikulturore, shumëgjuhëshe dhe multi-konfesionale. Maqedonasit e Shqipërisë iu bashkuan partizanëve shqiptarë në Luftën e Dytë Botërore dhe ndihmuan në çlirimin e Shqipërisë nga fashizmi dhe u bënë pjesë e rëndësishme e këtij vendi. Prandaj edhe ne, Maqedonasit, së bashku me Shqiptarët, Grekët, Vllehët, Romët, Egjiptianët, Serbët, Malazezët, Boshnjakët, ndihemi si të barabartë mes të barabartëve para Kushtetutës dhe ligjeve.
Deri tani ka pasur dhe ka shumë Maqedonas në institucionet e shtetit. Unë jam krenar, sepse jam deputeti i parë i minoritetit maqedonas në Kuvendin e Republikës së Shqipërisë në historinë e tij, që vjen nga një parti e regjistruar maqedonase. Në bazë të marrëveshjes parazgjedhore të vitit 2017 midis dy partive: Aleanca e Maqedonasve për Integrim Europian (AMIE) dhe Lëvizjes Socialiste për Integrim (LSI), unë isha i pesti në listën e LSI-së, për Qarkun e Korçës.
I shpreh mirënjohje Kuvendit të Republikës së Shqipërisë, i cili në vitin 2013 ktheu toponimet maqedonase ne Bashkinë e Pustecit dhe nëntë fshatrat e saj.
Pusteci është një destinacion interesant turistik i lënë pas dore në këto 28 vite, ndaj qeveria duhet të investojë në zhvillimin e turizmit, infrastrukturën rrugore, rrjetin e ujësjellësve dhe kanalizimeve, si dhe duhet të ndihmojë në bashkëpunimin ndërkufitar, për zhvillimin e Parkut Kombëtar “Prespa” mes Shqipërisë, Greqisë dhe Maqedonisë.
Natyrisht, komuniteti maqedonas në Republikën e Shqipërisë nuk janë vetëm Maqedonasit në Bashkinë e Pustecit dhe f.Vërbnik në Zonën e Devollit. Maqedonasit në Shqipëri jetojnë në rreth pesëdhjetë fshatra përgjatë kufirit shqiptaro-maqedonas, në zonat e Prespës në Qarkun e Korçës, Gollobordës në Qarkun e Dibrës, Gorës në Qarkun e Kukësit, dhe në qytetet e Tiranës, Elbasanit, Durrësit, Korçës, Bilishtit, Pogradecit, Kukësit, etj
Të nderuar deputetë,
Maqedonasit në Shqipëri dhe Shqiptarët në Maqedoni janë urë bashkëpunimi dhe vëllazërie në marrëdhëniet shqiptaro-maqedonase mbi parimet themelore të së drejtës ndërkombëtare bazuar në sovranitetin e barabartë.
Unë personalisht do të jap gjithçka nga vetja ime, së bashku me të gjithë ju, që deri në fund të mandatit të përmbush detyrimet e deputetit të këtij Kuvendi dhe do të mbaj përgjegjësi përpara sfidave me të cilat do të ballafaqohet shoqëria, qytetarët dhe shteti, të gjithë ne së bashku!
