Macedonia’s First Lady Visits Michigan Children’s Hospital, Honored at Luncheon

On September 21, 2018, UMD helped organize the visit of Macedonia’s First Lady Mrs. Maja Ivanova to the Children’s Hospital of Michigan. UMD Women in Leadership Chair Ana Dukoska, UMD Michigan Chair Deana Janceski, and UMD Macedonia Director Veronika Tomova accompanied the First Lady, members of her Office, and Macedonia’s Consul to Detroit Kristina Kozoska.

The visit led by the Children’s Hospital of Michigan’s Chief Executive Officer, Luanne Thomas Ewald, allowed for an exchange of best practices between medical workers from Michigan and Macedonia, focusing on the treatment of children. These valuable exchanges also led to a discussion about potential medical tourism between the two sectors, making use of telemedicine, second-opinion expertise, virtual and field visits of the medical cadre. UMD plans to jumpstart a new project concentrated on facilitating such exchanges.

The following day, amidst the excitement of the UMD Macedonian Tribute Ball, UMD’s Women in Leadership Program held a luncheon for the First Lady at the Westin Book Cadillac Detroit. During the luncheon, UMD Women in Leadership’s Chair Ana Dukoska bestowed an Honorary Membership upon the First Lady in honor of her commendable leadership, inspiring women from Skopje to Detroit. UMD Advisory Council Elizabeth Naumovski and UMD Macedonia Director Veronika Tomova were also present during the luncheon.
