UMD London Formed; Ilija Vlcevski Appointed As Representative

The United Macedonian Diaspora (UMD) is proud to announce its expansion to the United Kingdom with the appointment of Ilija Vlcevski as UMD’s new representative in the United Kingdom, based out of London. Vlcevski will particularly focus on the young generations of Macedonians in the UK and harness their potential to create a positive impact for the community and for Macedonia.

Vlcevski is a second-generation Macedonian immigrant born and raised in London, United Kingdom. He completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Hertfordshire in Business and Economics, and graduated with first-class honours. He is passionate about economics and strategy and pushing the boundaries of potential in these fields, particularly regarding improving the standard of living in Macedonia, for its diaspora community, and the wider Balkan region.

After participating in the 2017 Birthright Macedonia Program, where he interned for Macedonia’s President Dr. Gjorge Ivanov, and seeing the shared love for Macedonian heritage from his peers, he was inspired to spearhead a UMD division in the UK in order to help unite Macedonians in his country and across the globe. In his free time, he enjoys strength training and reading about economics, philosophy, politics, and strategy.

Upon learning of his appointment, Vlcevski expressed excitement and anticipation for the future of UMD London, “I am delighted to be leading UMD efforts in London and the UK. I hope to be able to shape the path ahead for a cause that has such personal significance for me.”

UMD Board Member responsible for UMD’s European expansion efforts, Dimitar Nasev added, “Ilija is a valuable member of the diaspora community and a promising young leader who I have no doubt will play a vital role in furthering UMD’s mission and be a staunch supporter of the global Macedonian community.”

UMD looks forward to all the great work that Vlcevski will accomplish in his new role, including collaborating with UMD’s long-time partner, the Association of Macedonians in the UK, and the Macedonian faith-based community in the UK.
