UMD Remembers Victims of Communism

On June 11-12, 2015, the United Macedonian Diaspora (UMD) participated in the “Remembering the Victims of Communism & Celebrating the Triumph of Liberty” memorial service in Washington, D.C. On June 11th, UMD’s summer International Policy and Diplomacy Fellows attended a discussion in the Library of Congress with survivors of the Hungarian, Cambodian, Russian and communist governments as well as with several distinguished members of Congress, like Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur of Ohio. On June 12th, UMD was a part of the “8th Annual Roll Call of Nations,” where UMD President Metodija A. Koloski and International Policy and Diplomacy Fellow Mario Hristovski placed a wreath before the Victims of Communism statue off Massachusetts Avenue to commemorate all those lost as a direct result of communism. UMD paid special respect to the Macedonian victims of communist Yugoslavia, Albania and Bulgaria.
