Croatian-Americans: President Obama – Macedonia Needs Your Unbridled Support

May 1, 2012 – Washington, D.C. – The United Macedonian Diaspora (UMD) is pleased to inform that our friends, the National Federation of Croatian Americans Cultural Foundation (NFCA CF), the voice of over half a million Croatian-Americans, sent a letter to President Obama encouraging his “unbridled support for the Republic of Macedonia’s bid for full NATO membership during the upcoming Chicago Summit.”

“Both Albania and Macedonia were concurrently nominated as NATO candidates alongside Croatia. While Albania also succeeded in entering NATO in early 2009, Macedonia remains outside of the alliance – the victim of an unnecessary and perennial name dispute with Greece that is halting the progress and growth of our important Western alliance… we ask you to take into consideration the rulings of the ICJ and push to extend a NATO invitation to the Republic of Macedonia during the NATO Summit in the great City of Chicago,” stated NFCA CF President Bill Vergot.

UMD extends its sincere and heartfelt gratitude to our friends at the NFCA CF for their continued strong support of Macedonia.  The Croatian-American and Macedonian-American communities, through NFCA CF and UMD, are working closely together to strengthen U.S. relations with Southeast Europe, and ensure the peace, security, and stability of the entire region.  NFCA CF and UMD member in the Southeast Europe Coalition founded in 2011 as a result of Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton’s Global Diaspora Forum.
