Goran Saveski Appointed to UMD Board of Directors

October 30, 2010 – Washington, D.C. & Toronto, Canada – The United Macedonian Diaspora (UMD) is pleased to announce its appointment of Goran Saveski to the UMD Board of Directors.  Currently, UMD has two Canadian-based members on its international Board of Directors.   

“On behalf of our Board, I wish to welcome Goran to our team,” stated UMD Board Chairman Stojan Nikolov. “Goran’s character, diplomatic skills, professionalism, and work-ethic will greatly contribute to UMD’s mission in Canada and throughout the world.” 

Goran Saveski has been an active member of UMD since 2007, and has served as UMD’s Liaison officer for Canada.  In June 2010, Saveski co-chaired the 2nd Annual UMD Global Conference in Toronto, bringing together 1,000 delegates from 20 countries.  With approximately quarter of a million Canadians of Macedonian heritage, UMD believes there is a great need to increase its operations in Canada, to strengthen the Canadian-Macedonian community’s voice in Ottawa and Toronto.

“I have always worked hard to promote Macedonia and Macedonian issues.  To be invited to be on the Board of the premier worldwide Macedonian Diaspora organization allows me to make a real difference in the effort to promote Macedonia and Diaspora issues.  I am honoured to be a part of UMD and hope to add something to what is a top group of talented Diaspora Macedonians,” stated Goran Saveski.

“I especially look forward to working with Goran as we build UMD Canada and increase our operations,” stated UMD Director of Canadian Operations Jim Daikos. “We have much work ahead of us in Canada to unite our community, and together with our members, volunteers, friends, and supporters, I am certain we will succeed.”

Elections for the UMD Board of Directors will be held on June 25, 2010, in conjunction with the 3rd Annual UMD Global Conference, which will be held on June 23-25, 2010 at the JW Marriott in Washington, D.C.

Biography

Goran Saveski is the Director of Operations at Delo Logic, a web application development company that produces web software for the healthcare and hospitality industry.  Goran has been working in IT for the past 12 years, and has worked in both Canada and Macedonia. 

Goran was born in Toronto, Canada where he attended York University, but has a strong connection to Macedonia, his parents’ native land.  From 1999 to 2004, Goran lived and worked in Macedonia as the head of IT development for an internationally funded finance project creating credit unions throughout the country. 

As a volunteer member of UMD, Goran works as a Liaison Officer in UMD’s Canadian branch, reaching out to Canadian policy makers, public and private institutions, and the wider Canadian community to raise awareness about Macedonia and Macedonian issues.

Founded in 2004, United Macedonian Diaspora is a leading international non-governmental organization addressing the interests and needs of Macedonians and Macedonian communities throughout the world.
