Who is the United Macedonian Diaspora (UMD)?

The United Macedonian Diaspora (UMD) is a global organization dedicated to preserving and promoting the distinct and unique language, culture, and history of Macedonians. For too long, we have allowed others to divide and define who we are. We stand proud in our heritage and work tirelessly to educate the world about Macedonia, advocating for recognition and justice for our people.

What We Do
UMD works to educate key centers of influence—policymakers, media, academics, and international multilateral organizations—about Macedonia. We inform and shine a light on human rights violations, promoting dialogue, understanding, and change.

Why Support the UMD?
Since the closure of the Patriarchate of Ohrid in 1767 by the Ottoman Sultan, Macedonians have faced countless struggles to maintain their identity. Following the 1913 Treaty of Bucharest, which divided our land, campaigns of ethnic cleansing and forced assimilation sought to erase our heritage. Yet, we persevered, achieving a Republic in 1944 and gaining independence in 1991. Your support ensures our resilience continues, defending our history, culture, and language.
