TCA & UMD Announce Study in Turkey Scholarships for Macedonian-American Students

Washington, D.C. – February 11, 2008 – The Turkish Coalition of America (TCA) and the United Macedonian Diaspora (UMD) today announced the launch of a scholarship program for Macedonian-American students to participate in study abroad programs in Turkey.

TCA , through UMD, will award up to 10 grants per year for $2,000 to full-time Macedonian-American undergraduates accepted to a study abroad program at a Turkish university.  The objectives of the program are for Macedonian-American students to foster friendship, understanding and cooperation between the United States and Turkey and to explore the historical and cultural links between Turkey and Macedonia.

TCA President Lincoln McCurdy stated that TCA is delighted to offer this opportunity to Macedonian-American students and to strengthening the friendship between the Turkish-American and Macedonian-American communities.  Both TCA and UMD understand that Macedonia and Turkey have a special current and historic relationship.

“Macedonia and Turkey have had a significant cultural and historical impact on each other.” stated UMD President Metodija A. Koloski.  “Indeed, Ataturk, the father of modern Turkey was born and educated in Macedonia.”  Through this program, Macedonian-American students will now be able to explore the links between Turkey and their ancestral homeland, and gain a greater understanding of the strong ties between the United States and Turkey.

Macedonian-American students who are interested in doing a study abroad program in Turkey should go to the Student Center on or clicking HERE , to learn how to apply for the TCA scholarship.
