Metropolitan Metodi Meets with Congresswoman Miller and Congressman Pascrell

On April 11-14, 2013, His Eminence Metropolitan Metodi of the American-Canadian Macedonian Orthodox Diocese is on his first official visit to Washington, D.C. to attend the United Macedonian Diaspora’s Macedonian-American Leadership Conference. As part of his agenda, Metropolitan Metodi visited the U.S. Congress today to meet with long-standing friends of Macedonia and the Macedonian-American community, Congresswoman Candice Miller of Michigan, who is founder and chair of Macedonia Caucus, and Congressman Bill Pascrell of New Jersey, a member of the Macedonia Caucus.

“Congresswoman Miller and Congressman Pascrell have been great friends of the Macedonian Orthodox Church, and on behalf of all Macedonian Orthodox believers in the U.S., it was an honor to meet with them again and convey our sincere gratitude for their unconditional support for Macedonia,” said Metropolitan Metodi, who is serving his seventh year as Metropolitan of the American-Canadian Diocese, and resides in the State of Michigan.

During the meetings, Metropolitan Metodi brought to the U.S. Representatives’ attention the current state of American-Canadian Diocese, his plans for organizing new Macedonian Orthodox communities in places like Boston, San Diego, and Washington, D.C., as well as his initiatives to develop programs that will be of benefit to the youth and future generations of Macedonian-Americans, including religious education and language studying.

Given that this year marks the 50th anniversary of the first Macedonian Orthodox Church to be built and consecrated outside of Macedonia, Sts. Peter and Paul Macedonian Orthodox Cathedral in Crown Point, Indiana, Metropolitan Metodi extended an invitation to Congresswoman Miller and Congressman Pascrell to attend the events surrounding the celebration of this momentous occasion.
