Congressman Trent Franks of Arizona Joins Macedonia Caucus

The United Macedonian Diaspora (UMD) is pleased to announce that Congressman Trent Franks (Republican-8th Congressional District of Arizona) became the newest member of the Congressional Caucus on Macedonia and Macedonian-Americans (Macedonia Caucus).

“Congressman Franks, a champion of global human rights and religious freedom issues, is a great friend of Macedonia and a huge supporter of its accession into NATO,” said UMD President Metodija A. Koloski.

Congressman Franks serves as the co-chair of the Congressional International Religious Freedom Caucus, established in 2006 to address religious persecution for people of any or no faith. UMD is a member of the informal International Religious Freedom Roundtable, which works closely on religious freedom issues with the Office of Congressman Franks. Congressman Franks also serves on the House Committees on Armed Services and Judiciary. Prior to beginning his political career, he ran a small business for 25 years.

On February 7, 2014, 40 members of the U.S. House of Representatives, including Congressman Franks, signed a letter to U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, encouraging continued efforts to make enlargement a key priority for the United States and the Alliance for the upcoming NATO Summit hosted by the United Kingdom in September 2014.

The Congressional Caucus on Macedonia and Macedonian-Americans (Macedonia Caucus) is a bi-cameral and bi-partisan group of members of Congress. As the voice for Macedonian-Americans in Washington, D.C., UMD looks forward to working with all Macedonia Caucus members in furthering their work to strengthen U.S.-Macedonia relations.

UMD encourages all Macedonian-Americans to contact their members of Congress by clicking HERE and ask them to join the bi-partisan Congressional Caucus on Macedonia and Macedonian-Americans.
