How do I become a part of Gen M?
All we ask to become a member is to fill out our form and leadership will reach out to get you more involved. We also strongly encourage all who are interested in becoming a member of the United Macedonian Diaspora.

How does Gen M operate?
We have a central leadership core group as well as committees established in Australia, Canada, Europe, and the United States, and we’re always looking to expand. We also maintain a database of Macedonians who attend college or university outside Macedonia, including tracking Macedonian student chapters.

What is the age range for getting involved?
Anyone can be an advocate for Macedonian youth. Our programs are targeted toward students and young professionals aged between 16-35. Above the range, recommend furthering your involvement with the United Macedonian Diaspora.

How can Gen M help me?
By working with Gen M, you will be exposed to a network of driven, ambitious, and passionate young people in the global Macedonian community. From scholarships and internships, to mentorship programs and Birthright Macedonia, there’s a wide array of career and personal advancement opportunities.

What does Gen M do?
From organizing leadership conferences, to building Macedonian Student Organizations on college campuses, to launching social media campaigns, and  helping send young Macedonians on a life-changing experience in Macedonia, our work varies across the board. Every event we plan and initiative we take on pertains to our mission and there’s no limit to what we can accomplish.

Does it cost money to join?
Yes, Generation M is a member driven program. To become a Generation M member click here.

Do I have to be Macedonian to get involved?
Just as anyone of any age can help us, anyone of any ethnicity can be an advocate of Macedonia and the Macedonian people. We encourage our members to reach out to other communities and educate them on Macedonian issues and build positive relationships so they too, can become friends of Macedonia.

What is Birthright Macedonia?
Birthright Macedonia offers Macedonian youth from around the world the opportunity to proudly declare their Macedonian identity and assert their Macedonian Heritage. Through its hands-on, life changing experience, Birthright Macedonia allows its participants to become fully immersed in their ancestral homeland by experiencing many facets of the fabric of Macedonia and its people.

Its mission is to offer all youth who are of Macedonian heritage and live abroad the opportunity to come to Macedonia for three weeks during the summer. While there, they will be assigned an internship program that complements their academic goals, career goals, or general interests.

Are there scholarship opportunities through Gen M?
Yes, UMD’s Canadian partner, Nova Generation, awards the John L. N. Bitove, C.M. Macedonian Heritage Scholarship Program that provides merit-based scholarships for young and promising students in the Macedonian Diaspora pursuing undergraduate or graduate studies in the U.S., Australia, Canada, or Europe.

Are there internship opportunities?
UMD offers internships throughout the year at its office in Washington, D.C. and the program is designed for undergraduate and graduate students. This internship will introduce and advance a future career in foreign policy, journalism, public relations, human rights, advocacy, government, or the nonprofit sector.

There is also an opportunity to apply for the Acevska Congressional Internship Program (ACIP). The ACIP runs annually with the goal of attracting Macedonian American students and recent graduates to offer them an opportunity to learn about the legislative process with a member of the U.S. Congress. ACIP participants will receive a stipend during their internship and will benefit from mentorship opportunities and leadership training programs run by UMD. Application guidelines that can be found here. (can we link to our Internships page?)

How else can I contribute as a Gen M member?
Aside from spreading the word, attending our events, and taking part in our programming, UMD also runs a publication, UMD Voice Magazine, where you may submit an article or think piece to be published.

And most importantly, recruit your fellow Macedonians to get involved!
