UMD Stands in Solidarity With Jewish Community After Pittsburgh Attack

On behalf of UMD leaders and members of the Macedonian-American community, we extend our deepest sympathies to the families and friends of the victims of the horrible and senseless attack on worshippers at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh, as well as the entire Jewish community and others who have been affected by this attack. This violent act of hatred against a fellow community in their place of worship violates the deepest values at the core of our society – of peace, tolerance, freedom of religion and the sanctity of life – and such hatred must be condemned.

“Americans of all religious, ethnic and political backgrounds must join together in this time of crisis to oppose the growing anti-Semitism, prejudice, racism and extremism our country is facing and which this horrific act is evidence of. May this tragedy strengthen our bonds and increase our resolve to resist these attitudes and protect the rights of all,” said Pittsburgh-based UMD Board Director Dr. Natasha Garrett.

UMD will be joining our partners at the American Jewish Committee in the #ShowUpForShabbat campaign, to stand in solidarity with the Jewish community in the coming days.
