UMD Expresses Condolences on the Passing of President George H.W. Bush

The United Macedonian Diaspora (UMD) has expressed its condolences to the Bush family at the passing of President George H.W. Bush. The 41st President of the United States died at the age of 94 on November 30, 2018.

Metodija A. Koloski, President of the United Macedonian Diaspora, offered his condolences:

“The relationship between the West and Macedonia is a long and complicated one. It has become far too easy to be petty, even spiteful when politicians pass or to let present disagreements get in the way of remembering the real meaning behind the seals of office.

“It is also far too easy to forget the tumult in the Balkans during President Bush’s years in office. While there will be disagreements on the United States’ involvement in the early 1990s, we must also take the opportunity to pause, reflect and appreciate the progress that has been made since Macedonia’s independence.

“Whatever history’s judgments, President Bush was a distinguished American and will rightly be remembered as a Cold War warrior who sought to see an international community built on friendship, cooperation and freedom.

“All of the UMD extends their condolences to the Bush family who has lost a patriarch, and America, which has lost a fine president.”
