LJUPKA ARSOVA 

Ljupka Arsova was born in Shtip, Macedonia. She has been passionate about environmental science and sustainability since her high school days when she completed a Young Master’s Degree in Sustainable Development at the Lund University, one of Europe’s oldest, largest, and most prestigious universities. After finishing high school in her hometown, she moved to Belgrade, Serbia, to complete a BS and MS in Ecology and Environmental Protection at the University of Belgrade. Immediately after graduation, she joined an environmental engineering and consulting company DEKONTA. Ljupka moved to the US as a fellowship recipient of the Earth Engineering Center of Columbia University to complete her MS in Earth and Environmental Engineering, in 2008.

She is currently working as an Investment Officer in the global infrastructure upstream department at the International Finance Institution part of the World Bank Group in Washington DC. In her previous roles, she was a senior environmental engineer for environmental service company Eastern Research Group, project manager and senior consultant for a solid waste management consulting company Gershman, Brickner & Bratton, Inc.; project manager and senior research fellow at Columbia University, and an independent solid waste management consultant. She brings expertise in advanced technologies for renewable energy from waste and working experience from numerous projects around the world. Ljupka is passionate about sustainable development, circular & low carbon economy, renewable energy, sustainable material management, women empowerment, and promoting STEM education for girls. She currently resides in Arlington, Virginia, and is actively involved in the UMD activities.
