“Congressman Franks, a champion of global human rights and religious freedom issues, is a great friend of Macedonia and a huge supporter of its accession into NATO,” said UMD President Metodija A. Koloski.
Congressman Franks serves as the co-chair of the Congressional International Religious Freedom Caucus, established in 2006 to address religious persecution for people of any or no faith. UMD is a member of the informal International Religious Freedom Roundtable, which works closely on religious freedom issues with the Office of Congressman Franks. Congressman Franks also serves on the House Committees on Armed Services and Judiciary. Prior to beginning his political career, he ran a small business for 25 years.
On February 7, 2014, 40 members of the U.S. House of Representatives, including Congressman Franks, signed a letter to U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, encouraging continued efforts to make enlargement a key priority for the United States and the Alliance for the upcoming NATO Summit hosted by the United Kingdom in September 2014.
