We’re excited to introduce you to UMD’s Summer Fellow, Mara Alexandra Kuhne!
Mara is from Detroit and is part of a family of Macedonian-Americans whose ancestors from Gabresh and Smurdesh (Aegean Macedonia) immigrated to the United States and Canada in the early 1910s.
She graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from Wayne State University in political science with a double minor in Russian and Global Studies in 2020. Previously, Kuhne interned for the Department of State and worked as a field organizer for a congressional primary campaign and as a campaign manager for a state representative’s reelection campaign.
Kuhne is currently a graduate student at the University of Michigan – Ann Arbor, where she is a dual-degree student in both the Ford School of Public Policy and the Masters in International and Regional Studies in the Center for Russian, Eastern European, and Eurasian Studies. She is a recipient of the Department of Education’s Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowship for Russian language.
