UMD Congratulates 60th Anniversary of Makedonka Macedonian Folk Dance Ensemble

UMD would like to congratulate Makedonka Macedonian Folk Dance Ensemble on their 60th Anniversary celebrated on November 24th. Over the past 60 years, Ensemble Makedonka has brought the beauty and joy of Macedonian dance to the Toronto, Canada community and the global Macedonian community. With 3180 practices, performances on 4 continents, and countless memories, Ensemble Makedonka has accomplished so much. They have performed at cultural events and festivals, fundraisers for the Macedonian community, and received numerous awards and honors.

UMD would like to recognize Alex Petlichkov, who we honored at the 2nd UMD Global Conference in Toronto in 2010, for his hardwork and dedication since the Ensemble’s foundation. Alex is a founding member of the group and the current choreographer. For the last 46 years, he has dedicated himself to promoting Macedonian dance and culture. It is because of passionate people like Alex that our Macedonian culture is able to truly shine.

To all of the dancers, past, and present, congratulations on your great achievements! Your talent and love for Macedonian culture inspires the whole of the Diaspora. We wish Ensemble Makedonka a wonderful 60th Anniversary and we cannot wait to see what the years to come will bring.
