The United Macedonian Diaspora (UMD) is pleased to announce the appointment of George Peters as the newest member on the UMD Board of Directors. Peters will also serve as the UMD Secretary replacing Ivona M. Grimberg who served in this capacity till June 2012 and will remain as UMD Director of Economic Development based out of Atlanta, Georgia.
“On behalf of the UMD Board of Directors, I am proud to welcome George Peters. George will be an important asset to UMD bringing the skills and qualifications necessary to promote UMD, Macedonia and Macedonian causes,” said UMD Board Chairman Stojan Nikolov. “Michigan is home to close to 125,000 Macedonian-Americans, and appointing George to the Board is a testament to UMD’s dedication to uniting all our communities abroad.”
“The humble origins of my family, the network of connections with Macedonians in both Canada and the United States, and experience as corporate counsel to Fortune 500 companies have provided me with a unique perspective and understanding of the challenges that the UMD and Macedonia face,” said Peters. “I stand ready to help UMD take on those challenges and appreciate the trust the UMD Board has given me.”
George Peters is a proud second generation Macedonian-American. His family originates from the Lerinsko region of Aegean Macedonia and the southwest region of the Republic of Macedonia. George was born and raised in the Detroit area and earned his Bachelor of Arts from Wayne State University and Juris Doctorate from the University of Michigan Law School. He has been practicing law since 1988. Currently, he serves as senior staff counsel at Chrysler Group, LLC in Auburn Hills, Michigan, where he works in the commercial and business affairs group. Prior to his current position at Chrysler, he also held positions in the law departments of Owens Corning; The Walt Disney Company, and Comshare, Inc. He has also taught undergraduate Business Law and Economics courses at the Detroit College of Business. In his spare time George is an avid supporter of his church, St. Clement of Ohrid in Dearborn, Michigan, and member of the board of the United Macedonian Americans of Detroit.
