The United Macedonian Diaspora (UMD) hails the Declaration of Strategic Partnership and Cooperation Between the United States of America and the Republic of Macedonia signed today in Washington, D.C. by U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Macedonian Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Milososki. UMD, which has been at the forefront of increasing U.S.-Macedonian relations and Macedonian cultural awareness in the U.S., praises both governments for wishing to "enhance their strategic relationship through intensified consultation and cooperation in the areas of security, people-to-people ties, and commerce" with the signing of this Declaration. |

The Macedonian Struggle for freedom from the Ottoman Empire was captured by the New York Times through various articles published during the late 1890s and early 1900s. The articles discuss topics such as the creation of the Komiti bands, the efforts to liberate Macedonia, the efforts to win independence similar to the Crete model at the time, the Ilinden Uprising efforts, among other topics. |

Michael Palin in his latest book said that Macedonia is ready to be taken seriously! As evidence of this, the first MFF which takes place in London is marking an important step forward introducing insight into Macedonian culture through Macedonian cinematography. 2008 is The Year of Macedonian Language and this coincides with Krug launching the First Macedonian Film Festival in the UK, a debut event of this kind. This event celebrates over 100 years of Macedonian rich film making tradition and all the talent within it. Adding this event to the European cultural map enriches European cultural expansion, increases knowledge, raises awareness and creates partnerships in mutual understanding and acceptance. |

The latest song "Postojam (I exist)" by the Macedonian singer MIYATTA sings about the Macedonian tragedy, the exodus of hundreds of thousands of Macedonians from Greece during the Greek civil war (1948). The biggest tragedy in these painful pictures are the "Detsa begalci (Children Refugees)" when thousands of children were loaded on trains and sent out of Greece by the Greek authorities. None of these Greek citizens are allowed to come back to Greece. The video speak for itself about this horrible tragedy... |

On April 6th, the Macedonian diaspora community in Los Angeles peacfully protested in front of the local Greek consulate. The Macedonian community in this area of the United States of America wanted to display its displeasure with the latest Greek chauvinistic politics, in particular the veto of Macedonia's NATO membership. One of the most respected news magazines, TIME magazine, has captured the Macedonian struggle for independence in the early years of the last century. The article, written in 1925, describes the continuing efforts by the Macedonian patriots to liberate Macedonia, which at that time was under Yugoslavian, Greek and Bulgarian occupation.
