"The Greek government views the term "Macedonian" as a geographic term that describes all Greek citizens living in the Macedonian region in northern Greece. The government denies the assertions of the ethnic Macedonians in Greece that they are are a minority group; officials refer to them as "Slavophone Greeks" or "bilinguals." - Human Rights Watch

Friday, 05 May 2006

Macedonia will intensify in the following period the communication and cooperation with the associations and organizations of Macedonians living in Albania, the official announcement says.

Macedonian Foreign Minister Ilinka Mitreva said this at the meeting with the representatives of the associations "Mir" and "Prespa", as well as of the party "Macedonian Alliance for European Integration", based in the Republic of Albania.

The cooperation and communication "in the fields spanning education, Macedonian language studies, culture and media projects will be stepped up in the following period", the Macedonian Foreign Ministry's announcement says.

"Minister Mitreva briefed her guests on the ongoing activities for opening the border crossing Dzepciste-Trebiste, which have entered the final stage", the announcement adds.

The representatives of the Macedonian organizations and associations expressed their gratitude for the previous cooperation and informed the Minister "about the planned activities relating the promotion of the Macedonian culture, language and identity", as well as about "activities aimed at political involvement in the institutions of the Republic of Albania".
