"The Greek government views the term "Macedonian" as a geographic term that describes all Greek citizens living in the Macedonian region in northern Greece. The government denies the assertions of the ethnic Macedonians in Greece that they are are a minority group; officials refer to them as "Slavophone Greeks" or "bilinguals." - Human Rights Watch

The Critical Languages Institute offers nine-week, eight credit intensive language courses in introductory and intermediate Macedonian.

ASU tuition is waived for the eight credits-a savings of thousands of dollars per student.  The only fee for the course is a $400 non-refundable registration processing fee.  This year the course will be held May 30-July 28, 2006 on the Tempe campus of Arizona State University. Classes are Monday through Friday from 8:40 am to noon.

The Macedonian language instructors are both scholars from the University of Ss. Kiril and Metodij in Skopje who come to CLI with extensive teaching experience.  Both are extremely popular with the students.

Following the nine-week courses held at Arizona State University, the CLI offers two-credit, three-week intensive practicum programs to Ohrid, Macedonia.  The practicum program builds language skills and introduces students to Macedonian culture.  Tuition is also waived for the practicum program.  The program costs approximately $1,400 (excluding airfare and personal expenses).

For more information and to apply to the CLI, please visit their website http://www.asu.edu/clas/reesc/cli/ or contact Ariann Stern at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .
