ACTION ALERT 2

"The Greek government views the term "Macedonian" as a geographic term that describes all Greek citizens living in the Macedonian region in northern Greece. The government denies the assertions of the ethnic Macedonians in Greece that they are are a minority group; officials refer to them as "Slavophone Greeks" or "bilinguals." - Human Rights Watch

“You've showed the world that it's possible for people of different backgrounds to live together in peace,” said U.S. President Bush in his meeting with Macedonian Prime Minister Buckovski on October 26th, 2005.

The Government of the Republic of Macedonia has made every effort to create an atmosphere in which a multi-ethnic society can develop and prosper. Macedonia serves, and will continue to serve, as an ideal developmental model reflecting prosperous multi-ethnic European society. The country has worked to resolve the heavy challenges of establishing a multi-cultural society despite the many socio-economic problems it has faced since its statehood in 1991. Equally important, Macedonia has shown uncommon determination in its efforts to embrace the western democratic order. Macedonia is a success story in building a stable, multiethnic democracy in the Balkans.

The United Macedonian Diaspora has outlined six current key policy issues concerning Macedonian-Americans and Macedonians around the world. To learn more about these policy issues, please click on the links to the left. In addition to these six policy issues, the United Macedonian Diaspora is actively engaged in cultural and educational awareness as well as charitable efforts and causes.

The United Macedonian Diaspora believes strongly in the rights to freedom, liberty, and self-determination.
