"The Greek government views the term "Macedonian" as a geographic term that describes all Greek citizens living in the Macedonian region in northern Greece. The government denies the assertions of the ethnic Macedonians in Greece that they are are a minority group; officials refer to them as "Slavophone Greeks" or "bilinguals." - Human Rights Watch

Monday, 05 March 2007

It is with deep regret and heartfelt sorrow to the family and friends of 4-year-old Andrej Zdravkovski that we announce his passing away on March 4, 2007.  May God Rest His Soul.

Although the members of the United Macedonian Diaspora did not have the chance to meet young Andrej in person, he touched our lives, showing us that giant-sized courage comes in little bodies.  He will be missed.  However, we know that his memory will be eternal!

The United Macedonia Diaspora would also like to take this moment to thank all those who gave time and their monetary contributions to help Andrej with his battle against the illness that took his life.  We are grateful for your noble and kind hearts.

Andrej suffered from a fast growing tumor on the brain stem glioma.

United Macedonian Diaspora has established a charitable fund.  UMD receives several letters a year seeking our help, however, unfortunately, we cannot take up every single case like Andrej's.  To support future UMD charitable efforts, you may donate by clicking on the button to your right or by checking a check payable to "United Macedonian Diaspora," and send to P.O. Box 19028, Washington, D.C. 20036, United States.  Please make sure to note that your contribution should be directed towards UMD's charitable fund.
