ACTION ALERT

"The Greek government views the term "Macedonian" as a geographic term that describes all Greek citizens living in the Macedonian region in northern Greece. The government denies the assertions of the ethnic Macedonians in Greece that they are are a minority group; officials refer to them as "Slavophone Greeks" or "bilinguals." - Human Rights Watch

Dear Ms. Dickinson,

The United Macedonian Diaspora would like to thank you and the National Geographic Magazine for your professional, unbiased and apolitical response to the protest letter by the American Hellenic Institute in regards to NGM’s identification of the Republic of Macedonia as “Macedonia.”

Our organization sincerely appreciates your stance on self-determination, and we would like to extend our praise to your magazine on the educated decision in regards to the name and history of Macedonia.

We look forward to continued cooperation and information sharing. Should you decide to travel to the biblical Republic of Macedonia and perhaps present some of the noteworthy historical artifacts and natural beauty (the cradle of the Cyrillic alphabet from the breathtaking Lake Ohrid, the land of Alexander the Great, the birthplace of Mother Theresa, future home of the largest Jewish museum in Southeastern Europe, among many other things) that Macedonia posses, then we would love to be of assistance to you.

Sincerely,

United Macedonian Diaspora
