ACTION ALERT

"The Greek government views the term "Macedonian" as a geographic term that describes all Greek citizens living in the Macedonian region in northern Greece. The government denies the assertions of the ethnic Macedonians in Greece that they are are a minority group; officials refer to them as "Slavophone Greeks" or "bilinguals." - Human Rights Watch

Macedonian-American and Macedonian-Australian to be in Gruevski's Government PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 20 July 2006

Source: Total and Macedonian News Service

English translation edited by UMDiaspora Staff

Total has unofficially learned that AMBO* Corporation's Executive Vice President for Government and Media Relations Gligor Tashkovich will be engaged as deputy prime minister for foreign investment in Gruevski's incoming government.  If Tashkovich accepts the offer, he will be one of two deputy prime ministers for attracting foreign investments, a step that Gruevski heralded in his program entitled "Rebirth in 100 Steps."

Besides Tashkovich, the second deputy prime ministerial position is planned to be offered to John Jonovski, an Australian of Macedonian descent, who used to work briefly as adviser to one of the SDSM's governments and who also worked on the issuance of the first Macedonian euro-bond.

Both Tashkovich and Jonovski are highly acclaimed in the European and U.S. business communities.  If Gruevski manages to get them in his government, foreign investors' interest in Macedonia as a possible business and investment destination is most likely to increase.

*AMBO stands for Albanian-Macedonian-Bulgarian Oil Corporation, a $1.1 billion Trans-Balkan Oil Pipeline project, which will connect the Black Sea with the Adriatic Sea and cross the Republics of Bulgaria, Macedonia, and Albania.
