The Macedonian filmmakers chose Milcho Manchevski’s new film, SHADOWS, to represent Macedonia in the 2008 Oscar race.  The committee picked SHADOWS today to be the Macedonian entry in the Foreign-Language category.

20 Macedonian firms received the Seal of Quality  standard for meat, poultry and dairy products that enables them to export their products seamlessly in the EU. During the last four years, the project created over 400 new jobs, helped to increase exports of fruits and vegetables by $17 million, facilitated over $30 million investment in equipment by 1,600 client agribusiness firms.

 Tose Proeski, one of Macedonia’s most popular singers, and a regional UNICEF Ambassador, has a new mission: to improve the quality of education in his country.

The rock star will perform at a concert in Macedonia’s capital, Skopje, in late September to support the country’s five-year Primary Education Project. More than 25,000 people are expected to attend the event, which will be Web cast to reach fans in Serbia, Montenegro, and Bulgaria.

Defense Minister reaffirms Macedonia's readiness for NATO PDF Print E-mail

 In an interview with the Macedonian radio, the Defense Minister of the Republic of Macedonia Lazar Elenovski states that Macedonia meets the requirements for NATO accession and is ready to become a part of the Euro-Atlantic orgnaization. 
The United Macedonian Diaspora supports the Republic of Macedonia's NATO bid and encourages reforms to continue, particularly in the judiciary.  UMD will continue to advocate in favor of the admission of Macedonia into NATO in 2008.

Ministers, senior officials, parliamentarians, academics, NGO representatives, and journalists from 49 NATO and Partner countries gathered on the shores of Lake Ohrid for discussions of key security issues. The need for a comprehensive approach to Afghanistan, a framework for energy security and the importance of integrating the Balkans into Euro-Atlantic structures was the focus of the meeting.  The Euro-Atlantic Partnership Council Security Forum (EAPC) brought together Ministers, senior officials, parliamentarians, academics, NGO representatives, and journalists from 49 NATO and Partner countries for discussions of key security issues.
