Congressman Peter Welch's Remarks on Macedonia PDF Print E-mail

Congressman Peter Welch (D-VT) gave the following remarks on February 13, 2008: "Macedonia has made incredible strides since its independence in 1991, achieving membership in the United Nations, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, the World Trade Organization, and to NATO's Partnership for Peace and Membership Action Plan. Macedonia is a candidate for European Union membership and may soon be invited as a full member of NATO, hopefully as soon as April of this year. I look forward to the continued strengthening of the United States and especially Vermont's partnership with the Republic of Macedonia."  To read full text of remarks, click HERE.

UMD Sends Letter to U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice Regarding Greece PDF Print E-mail

Last week, UMD sent a letter to U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice urging her to reiterate America’s recognition of Macedonia’s constitutional name, support for Macedonia’s NATO admission, and position that the “name dispute” between Greece and Macedonia is immaterial to Macedonia’s NATO bid during her upcoming meeting with the Greek Foreign Minister on February 14, 2008.

Greece Denies Entry to a US Citizen PDF Print E-mail

Greece has denied entry to a United States citizen when the individual tried to enter the country earlier this month. The explanation from the Greek border crossing officer was that the individual was "in the national register" and that he will not be allowed to continue its travel.
