UMD Board Chairman Nikolov Kicks Off UMD Membership Month

Every September from now on will be UMD Membership Month, where UMD encourages its current members to renew their support of UMD for the upcoming year, and for new people to join UMD.  UMD Board Chairman Stojan Nikolov kicks off September as UMD Membership Month with a letter discussing previous accomplishments of UMD and future goals/plans for the organization.

UMD, Macedonia, and the world, remember Mother Teresa

 The United Macedonian Diaspora (UMD) joins millions of people around the world today to commemorate the 100th year anniversary of Mother Teresa’s birth.  Mother Teresa was born in Skopje, Macedonia on August 26, 1910 as Agnes Bojaxhiu Gonxha. 

To commemorate her birth and her life, the Parliament of Macedonia will hold a formal session to mark the anniversary, and will hand out state awards named in her honor.  An exhibition titled "100 Portraits of Mother Teresa" by artist Miftar Memeti will be opened, while a birthday vigil will take place later in the day.  A monograph "Be Blessed, Prayers and Messages" by Stojan Trencevski will be launched and a documentary "Following the Footsteps of Mother Teresa" will be screened in the frameworks of an array of activities marking the 100th year anniversary of her birth.

TCA Congressional Delegation Completes Macedonia Visit

Delegation in front of St. Bogorodica Perivlepta in OhridA delegation of 18 senior Congressional staffers sponsored by the Turkish Coalition of America (TCA) has completed its visit to the Republic of Macedonia and is currently visiting Turkey. The delegation visit to Macedonia was organized with the United Macedonian Diaspora (UMD) with a view to educate senior advisors about the current state of political, economic and social affairs of Macedonia and the country’s relationship with the United States and Turkey.

Turkish Coalition of America Sponsors Congressional Delegation to Macedonia and Turkey

This week, the Turkish Coalition of America (TCA) is sponsoring a delegation of 18 senior Congressional staffers to Macedonia and the Republic of Turkey.  TCA and the United Macedonian Diaspora (UMD) are working together to educate the senior advisors about the primary issues of importance facing both nations and the status of their relationships with the United States.

Macedonian Tourists’ Cars Vandalized in Greece

 “Greece or nothing," "Macedonia is Greek,” are some of the insults that Macedonian tourists found on their cars in the second finger of the Halkidiki peninsula.  Pictures show the car from the general manager of Hypo Adria Leasing Macedonia, Oliver Zintl, although Austrian, because of the Macedonian registration plates on his car, his vacation was ruined.

UMD Board Elects Stojan Nikolov as New Chairman

 The United Macedonian Diaspora (UMD) announced today that its Board of Directors elected Stojan Nikolov as Chairman for the upcoming year.  Nikolov takes over the role of Chairman from current UMD Vice President Aleksandar Mitreski who served as Chairman since July 2009.  The Chairmanship is a one year position and the Chairman is selected by the Board from its members.  Nikolov has been a member of the UMD Board for the last two years serving as Development Director of UMD Voice magazine.  In addition, he oversees the development of new technologies to promote UMD, such as YouTube and Facebook, and he helps maintain the UMD website.
