3rd Annual UMD Global Conference in Washington, D.C. – Huge Success!

UMD successfully completed its 3rd Annual Global Conference (UMD GC2011) at the JW Marriott in downtown Washington, D.C. from June 23-25, 2011. Macedonians and friends of Macedonia from Australia, Canada, Macedonia, and the United States traveled to attend UMD GC2011 making it a truly global event!This year marks the 20th Anniversary since Macedonia’s Independence; therefore, UMD’s Board of Directors titled UMD GC2011 “Shaping the Future,” and envisioned a policy-oriented conference where participants could discuss Macedonia’s progress, current state of affairs, and future.

UMD Congratulates Macedonian Prime Minister Gruevski and First Diaspora MPs

June 6, 2011 – Washington, D.C. – The United Macedonian Diaspora (UMD) joins millions of Macedonians throughout the world in congratulating Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski for successfully winning yesterday’s elections in Macedonia.  UMD congratulates Miki Dodevski (Australia), Risto Mancev (Europe), and Pavle Sazdov (North America) on being elected as the first members of Macedonia’s Parliament from the Diaspora.

Declare Your Macedonian Heritage in the 2011 Canada Census

Don’t let our Macedonian heritage be erased from history, participate in the 2011 Census.  According to the 2006 Canadian census, only a small fraction of the Macedonian community (37,050) claimed their Macedonian ethnicity.  It is vital that all Canadians of Macedonian descent declare their ancestry.

UMD Announces 2010 Bitove Macedonian Heritage Scholarship Recipients

April 11, 2011 – Toronto, Canada – On Sunday, April 10, 2011, the United Macedonian Diaspora (“UMD”) presented to three aspiring young Canadian-Macedonians with their 2010 John L. N. Bitove, C.M. Macedonian Heritage Scholarship Awards (“Bitove Scholarship”). The Awards, in the amount of $2,000 each, were presented to Alexandra Close, Alexander Karapancev, and Biljana Markovska during a ceremony at St. Clement of Ohrid Macedonian Orthodox Cathedral in Toronto, Canada before family members, friends and supporters of UMD.
